Sony India has restocked on the company`s nextgen gaming console and playstation 5 will be available for preorder again on 12:00PM IST February 22nd via Sony authorized stores and through online retailers like Amazon, GamesTheShop, and ShopatSC. This is the second time this year PS5 is available on preorder, January 18th, 2022 was the first restock of this year.
Sony launched the PlayStation 5 in November 2020, and a few months later Sony India brought the PS5 to India on February 2nd, 2021. Since then the PS5 has seen very high demand in the country and the console gets sold out within minutes of a restock. With semiconductor shortage and supply chain constraints, Sony has not been able to meet the demand for its PS5 globally. Even then, Sony PS5 surpassed Microsoft Xbox Series X|S sales worldwide.
This is the second PS5 pre-order in 2022. According to many media, the number of Sony PlayStation S will be very limited due to lack of chips. Sony is struggling to maintain a supply of PS5 consoles.
Sony recently said it shipped only 3.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles during the festive quarter of 2021. According to the report, a total of 17.3 million units have been shipped as of December 31, nearly three million less than what PlayStation 4 has managed at break-even point after release.
Games division 's revenue fell 8% year-on-year (YoY) to 813.3 billion yen ($7.09 billion), but operating profit rose 12.1% to 92.9 billion yen ($810 million). Sony's key image sensor division had a strong quarter, with revenue up 22% year over year to $57.8 billion ($504 million).
