Back in September last year, Google rolled out its Play Music service in India. At that time, it only allowed songs to be purchased and subscription plans were not available.
That's no longer the case, as the company has finally launched Google Play Music subscription in the country. The service is available across multiple platforms including iOS, Android and Web. Interested users can sign up for a free trial. As an introductory offer, the company is also offering a discounted subscription offer of Rs 89 per month, for users who sign up within the first 45 days.
Google Play Music subscription allows users to get unlimited access to 40 million unique local and international hits. Users can also download the songs for offline listening. The app asks users about their location at the time of downloading songs, and playlists can be changed on the basis of location too.
Google Play Music also allows users to find music by language or by favourite Bollywood artists and music directors. It can even be used to watch videos. The company has incorporated contextual tools in the app. The app uses machine learning to serve recommendations to users based on their listening preferences, activity and location.
In related news, Apple recently updated its Apple Music app for Android users. The update introduces a revamped design, as well as new features like on-screen lyrics and more.
The 'Now Playing' section can now show lyrics of the song that the user is listening to. Along with this, the Library section has been updated for easier navigation.
The updated 'For You' section of Apple Music can now provide recommendations for playlists, albums and more, based on the users' music choices. Album art display has also been enlarged, and users can browse and listen to Beats 1 Radio.
